HD-less boot
I assembled two floppy discs (yes the black things one used for storing files on) to boot my i486-Router with. It uses a console on the serial line, because my router doesn't posess a graphic card. Use a serial terminal 9600,n,8,1 attached to ttyS1 to controll the boot process.
I post this only if someone can use it.
- Kernel 2.6.0-test9-gentoo
- glibc-2.3.2
- busybox 0.60.5
- hdparm-5.4 (to shut the no longer needed hd down)
- iptables-1.2.9 (only MASQUERADING to use nat)
- module-init-tools-0.9.15-pre4
- pcmcia-cs-3.2.5 (cardmgr, kernel modules are used)
- udhcp-0.9.8
- wireless_tools.26
- e2fsprogs 1.34
The kernel includes modules for orinoco wireless cards, 8139too and via-rhine network cards.
- Boot-Disc
-
The Boot-Disc holds the kernel and grub. Start the grub shell and type root(fd0) and setup(fd0) after untarring the tarball to your floppy.
- Root-Disc
The root-disc contains a memory image. Put it on a floppy via dd if=root-image.gz of=/dev/fd0 bs=1k.
